Maxiguard Full & Half Face Respirators
Maxiguard full & half face respirators
Reusable silicone respirators using the DIN 40 mm thread cartridge system — the same standard used across most European and Australian reusable respirators, giving access to a wide range of user-replaceable filter types. Half-face for cost-effective particulate and vapour work, full-face where eye protection is also required against vapour or splash.
Half-face vs full-face
- Half-face — covers nose and mouth only. RPF 10 when correctly fitted. The workhorse for painting, solvent use, silica, and welding fume where separate eye protection is appropriate.
- Full-face — covers entire face including eyes. RPF 50. Required where vapour or splash can injure the eye (acid mist, pesticide, organic solvent spraying) or where safety glasses can't be worn effectively with a half-face mask.
Filter cartridges
DIN 40 mm thread cartridges are available in every common combination:
- P2 / P3 — particulate only. For dust, silica, welding fume.
- A1 / A2 / A3 — organic vapour. Increasing capacity: A1 for light solvents, A2 for paint spray, A3 for heavy solvent exposure.
- ABEK-P3 — general multi-gas plus particulate. The all-purpose cartridge.
- Specific filters — mercury (Hg), formaldehyde (formaldehyd), and other specialist filters for scheduled exposures.
See our DIN-thread filter range for the full list of compatible cartridges.
Silicone construction
Maxiguard uses medical-grade silicone for the face seal — more flexible than rubber at low temperatures, less prone to hardening, and hypoallergenic for workers with rubber sensitivities. Silicone also holds its shape longer in storage, extending the effective service life of the mask body.
Fit testing
Every half or full-face mask requires quantitative or qualitative fit testing per AS/NZS 1715 before use. Silicone masks typically fit a wider range of face shapes than rubber, but fit-test pass rates vary between workers — never assume compatibility without testing.
Cleaning and maintenance
Clean the mask body after each shift with warm soapy water or respirator-specific wipes. Replace the face seal (silicone insert) every 12 months of daily use, or immediately if cracks, deformation, or hardening are visible. Filters are replaced separately per their service life.
Pair with accessories
Complete your system with spare parts and filters from the Maxiguard spare parts range, or step up to a bundled kit from Maxiguard respirator kits.
Standards & compliance
All Maxiguard respirators are certified to AS/NZS 1716. Filter cartridges carry their own AS/NZS 1716 certification for the specified protection class. Check the expiry date on each filter package — cartridges have a shelf life independent of in-use service time.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a half-face respirator last?
The mask body typically 3–5 years of daily use with proper cleaning. The silicone seal may need replacement sooner — every 12–18 months. Filters are replaced much more frequently, per their usage and saturation.
Can I mix filter brands on a Maxiguard mask?
Only if the filter is DIN 40 mm threaded and certified to AS/NZS 1716. Even within this standard, mixing is generally discouraged — sticking to one manufacturer's cartridges simplifies compliance documentation and ensures seal integrity.
Can I use this mask for asbestos work?
With P3 cartridges, a full-face Maxiguard meets the minimum for short-duration asbestos tasks under AS 2601. For sustained asbestos removal work, use a PAPR system rated for asbestos — see our asbestos PAPR range.
