Safety shoes
Safety shoes deliver the same toe-cap protection as safety boots in a low-cut, lighter profile. They're the right choice where ankle support isn't critical and all-day comfort matters — warehousing, logistics, driver-operators, and supervisors who move between site and office. Same AS/NZS 2210 ratings, less weight, faster to put on and take off.
When to choose shoes over boots
- Warehouse & logistics — flat floors, forklift-adjacent work, no rough terrain.
- Delivery drivers — mixed cab/ground time, hot cabin conditions, frequent ingress/egress.
- Light manufacturing — indoor, controlled surfaces, no ankle-twisting hazards.
- Supervisors & inspectors — spending half the day on site, half in meetings.
When boots are still the answer
Any work involving uneven terrain, climbing, high-impact ankle risk (kerbs, scaffolding), or regular exposure to hot/sharp debris around the ankle should use safety boots. Shoes lose the ankle-roll protection that boots provide.
Toe-cap options
Safety shoes are available with the same toe-cap materials as boots:
- Steel — default, thinnest profile, metal-detector-triggering.
- Composite (fibreglass, Kevlar) — non-conductive, metal-detector safe. Essential for airport, rail, electrical fit-out.
Sole & slip rating
Most safety shoes use PU or EVA midsoles with rubber or TPU outsoles. For food service, kitchens, and wet-floor environments, specify SRC slip rating — it's the only classification that covers both wet-tile and oily-steel conditions. Warehouse use typically requires SRA or SRC.
Upper & comfort
Safety shoes usually use lighter, more breathable uppers than boots — synthetic mesh, microfibre, or lightweight leather. EVA cushioning and moulded footbeds are standard. For all-day standing, look for shock-absorbent heel inserts or add aftermarket insoles from our accessories range.
Frequently asked questions
Are safety shoes as protective as boots?
Toe-cap and sole protection are identical — shoes meet the same AS/NZS 2210 ratings. Boots add ankle support and higher coverage against hot debris, liquid splash, and twisting injuries; that's the main trade-off.
Can I wear safety shoes with dress clothes?
Modern business-style safety shoes exist — leather oxford-cut with steel toe — suitable for meetings, customer sites, or corporate PPE environments. Check the product page for business-appropriate styling.
Do they come in half sizes and wide fits?
Yes — most premium ranges offer half sizes and at least one wide option (often called "6E" or "wide"). Sizing varies by manufacturer; check the size guide on each product page.
Do you offer trade or bulk pricing?
Yes — trade accounts get 5% off RRP, and carton-quantity discounts apply. Apply for a trade account →
